A suggestion, for helping you determine if it's a fair price:
Talk with the breeder and find out what costs they have invested that they are trying to cover--vet bills, proper medical testing, cost of stock, show expenses, supplies, etc. An honest breeder would be more than willing to share that with you and it will tell you if they are doing what's right by the dogs, or just breeding to make a quick buck. Check for references, ask to talk to other owners of their dogs. Ask here if anyone has ever dealt with them.
Patience and research are key, but with persistance, you'll find what you are looking for.
