There are none upstairs yet (thank God) but those dogs can hear and sense things so well. Maybe try to let him out and go 'get' whatever he's sensing.

That's true, but his ears never perk or go up(you know how they do when the can hear something?). And I lifted the gate to let him out to 'investigate' and that was when he ran and hid behind me like a little girl. lol He was like, 'NO. WAY."
