hmm well how i taught peanut was, i would make him sit and then i would say "shake" and i would hold the treat up in the air and take my other hand and with my finger I would touch his paw/leg until he lifted it up..( and i also would take his paw and hold it like i was shaking his paw and say shake)and i would say shake again, and i would do that over and over and i swear it took like 15 mins for him to do it himself.
