Dont worry, we didn't hold the dog and cat together. We would hold the dog (since he was more apprehensive) and the cat would just be near us. When the cat would get curious, she would come up to us, and I would just pet the cat, without the dog coming into contact with her (to show the dog that his "pack leader" is not afraid and that it's ok to be around the cat. We also did the reverse with holding the cat, and the dog would come over to investigate. We certainly didn't force any physical contact between the two...they did that on their own. Eventually when they got use to being near each other, they just got closer and closer until there was physical contact (sniffing..that sort of thing). So once we saw that, we knew we made progess...cause that's what they do...they smell to investigate first. Now they love playing with each other!
