Years ago we had a cat that was an only pet for about 8 years. Then we got a 10 week old yorkie. The puppy was very interested in the cat but the cat didn't like the puppy at all. For the first week the cat hid, under beds, furniture even burrowed her way under the covers of a completely made bed. I felt so bad I even fed the cat under the bed. After a couple weeks the cat started venturing out into the living room and kitchen. The puppy didn't pay too much attention to it. Before you knew it they were the best of friends. Played together and teased each other and always liked to snuggle up and sleep together. They remained the best of friends and when the cat died at 16 my yorkie deeply missed his buddy. I think the cat and puppy will work things out eventually.
