Try not to worry about Burton.  (Love his name, that is my Dad's name 

).  His story sounds just like my Barkley.  He was put under twice and actually when they put them under to pull teeth it is a very, very mild sedative and they reverse so quickly you cannot even tell they have been under anesthesia.  Barkley did just fine, came home ate (hard food) like he hadn't eaten in 3 days.  I did not even give him the pain reliever.  I work for a vet, have for 12 years, and we do this all the time.  It WILL make his breath better, I promise - I know - we lived through the "death breath".  Good luck and hugs.
