I have had both and for me hands down I would choose an adult.
They are so much easier. They can be left alone longer. Potty training a puppy is a full time job. They are past chewing and crazy puppy distruction.
I would rescue they know you have given them a second chance and they are so thankful. It is a very special and unique bond when you get a rescue.
