Ditto. I went by weeks until Bella was 4 mo. old....actually, until after she was 16 weeks. To me, the reason to go by weeks early on is that different things happen at different weeks in the whole development scheme of things. Puppy shots go by weeks, not months, and a dog's bladder muscles reach maturity at about 16 weeks, so they can start holding it enough to go ahead with rigorous potty training (they they are usually pretty well potty trained by this time anyway and only require a little more firmness to be finished with it). After 16 weeks, there are development markers by months, and then after 1 year (or 2 years), saying an age in years is all you need.

Kind of like an infant....weeks for a bit, then months, then usually in years after 24 months. I also think part of the reason is that in a baby that is 2 weeks old, 1 week is a VERY significant portion of his life....likewise in a baby that's 6 mo. old, 1 mo. is a significant portion of his life. But, around 2 or so, 1 mo. even isn't as significant a portion as it once was, so speaking in terms of years becomes the norm.
