A couple of teaspoons for a 6-week puppy is good, and probably the amount they should be eating. You should have food out at all times; this is called free feeding. Since their tummies are small and can't hold much, frequent feeding is important. If you give too much Nutri-cal it will inhibit the appetite, instead of stimulating it. Karo syrup is pretty much the same as Nutri-cal, or honey, but like bhj said, is safer than honey, use the same amount as you did of the honey. When the puppy weighs 2 pounds you can probably eliminate the Karo syrup from the water. Don't add too many new foods, as this can cause tummy upsets, and diarrhea. |
