I wouldn't back down if they give you a hard time. Ask them if they have a camera that watches the register. Many gas stations here do as the attendants work alone for the most part.
When I worked retail I never put the customers $ in the til until after they had their change - that way there was never a dispute over what they gave me. I would just set it on top of the open til. I also said out loud 'change from $$' when handing then back money.
I had a similar thing happen to me at a gas station. After I left I realized I had received the wrong change. I called from work and they had it waiting for me when I stopped in on my way home. Hopefully your story will have a happy ending. |
