I was one of those people that will want to come right away to see the pup and that was what I did when we were getting Pao. I had a lot of patience at first and went through applications to adopt one from a rescue and that went south and weeks/months passed and I want a puppy so bad as I didn't have any friends here during that time and I badly needed a pup for companion as I was also depressed. I eventually gave up trying to adopt after one very bad experience with a rude person who called me from a rescue. After that, looked at a lot of ads and asked around and when I met Pao's breeder through an online ad, I emailed and I asked if we could come right away and they said yes and that was what we did at 10pm at night! But I do agree the economy is really bad right now and it never hurt to be extra cautious over things.
