I'm Teresa new Mommy to Lexy whom I have had since last Thursday. She flew in to me from Kansas and I immediately noticed she sounded like she was coughing so I took her the next day to the Vet for her check up thinking she may have caught something on the plane. She was 13 wks and weighed 1lb 13oz. She was given an antibiotic...she didn't seem to be getting better so I called the Vet yesterday to make an appt for today and this morning I noticed she wasn't eating and her tummy was growling a lot. The appt was 2 and she had yet to eat. They weighed her today and she now weighs 1lb 12oz and also had a fever. They did heart and chest x-rays and it shows her lungs are clear but it appears she has a collapsed trachea leading all the way to her lungs which is why she has the coughing sound. It is unrepairable because of where it's at, it's not at the point to where surgery is an option and she will always have the coughing sounds especially when she gets excited. ;-( I was told by the Vet she can live a healthy life as long as I keep an eye on her for any signs of fever, raspy cough, etc because she will be prone to fluid in her lungs because of her small airway. They are keeping her overnight to give her IV fluids and possibly run more tests.

They tested her for parvo today as well and that was negative thank goodness! My husband is a police officer and so is the Vet's husband so they work together so she's is pretty straight forward and honest with us and actually doesn't charge us what she normally charges others. It's upsetting though because it has already cost me $300 at the Vet and this is something the breeder should of caught as often as she coughs throughout the day. I just hope she's better tomorrow, I can't imagine losing her now...I have already grown so attached to her and she is horribly spoiled!
