Well I wanted to find some treats for her, but She didn't like some of the treats I bought. So I just used her dog food as her treat and would teach her right before her meals when she is hungry.
The perks about that is that you can do 30 repetitions without killing your pocketbook and also spoiling her. First thing I taught her was come here and I made sure to use the same word and hand signal every time i did it. When she came I would give her a treat. I taught her go home afterwards and I just kept having her run back and forth from her home and to me and gave her a treat each time she followed the commands.
Then I taught sit, by putting a little pressure on her rear until she sat on her own. Gave praise and treat/kibble. Eventually she figured out what sit meant without me putting pressure on her butt. The trick is to not move on to the next trick until they have the previous tricks down really well. And then I taught her to lay down from the sitting position, by putting pressure on her back until she sat.
I taught her roll over by having her follow food between two fingers moving in the motion a roll over would be (around her neck), but make sure shes in lay down position when she starts. You do that over and over with the treat in hand so she follows/rolls over and give her praise/treat when she makes the full roll. She may bite ur finger a little bit in the process of learning roll over. After that I would fake like i'm grabbing a treat and do the same motion and after she rolled I would grab a treat and feed it to her. and in the end you can just have her do the command by doing the circle command with ur pointer finger only.
The bang was just a half roll over, I would do bang and have her roll over half way and gave her a treat when she was on her back. Make sure you don't let her get off her back until u give her the okay command to get up. You might have to give her a little push with the pointer when u do the bang, but eventually u just move ur finger/gun further away.
Sorry for the long tutorial. Key things is using the same key words for the command, same hand signal, praise & treat when they do it right. I think she learned so fast is because I got a lot of repitions with her food. And make sure not to feed her entire meal by hand, because they may get use to being hand fed only. |
