I start all of my babies on wee wee pads and then train them to the litter box, I still keep pads down for the little ones just in case of an accident though. Training them to use the litter box really isn't that hard, its just time consuming in the begining. When you first get up in the morning and before you go to bed at night be sure and put them in the box and wait, gently talk to them but don't let them get out of the box for at least five minutes.
If you should find an accident somewhere in the house you have to pick it up and place it in the litter box. If you should happen to catch them in the act of a no no then gently pick them up not scolding and never saying bad, carry them to the litter box and place them in it. Once they get the smell of other accidents in there they start to get the idea quickly. I have 14 Yorkies and all but the very young puppies use a litter box, it sure cuts down on the laudry in a big way. The secret is you have to be persitant just like you have to be when wee wee pad training. |
