That would freak me out too. We've had them in our crawl space and attic but never in the house. If you live in an apartment I would think it would be your landlords responsibility to take care of the problem. One word of advice though is don't use poison, trap them instead. If they are poisoned they can crawl between walls or into very small spaces and die and they they smell terrible. Plus if they are poisoned and another animal eats them they too can be poisoned.
