I think the AKC is the only legitimate American club, and the only one I would bother registering with. The other registries, some closely involved with the commercial pet industry, and others that don't require any proof of the dog's background or proof of breeding rights seem worthless. The other registries don't have any capability to allow breeders to sell dogs with limited registration, and all good breeders should do this. There is no reason to register a dog, it doesn't make it more valuable, but I just wanted to support the work that the AKC is doing, and you do get a cute tag.
