Yes he should be diagnosed. If it is reflux...the acid will eat away at his esophagus. It can cause cancer. It also burns...have you ever had really bad heartburn?

The vet can provide you with information to prevent it and if it's merely his age and the weakness of his "flap"...he's likely to prescribe pepcil. A hernia is another cause of reflux.
