We almost put some lino down in the puppies kennel & play yard area in our livingroom, but found some rubber sheeting used for installing showers makes clean up a breeze when they miss the pad or just having an accident. I'm not cleaning my carpet daily
As for the tray, I used a contractor size heavy garbage bag & duct taped it on the bottom so they could not get to it, now they use their piddle pads on the rubber mat, no messes in their kennel
