I hate that I can see 2 sides to this....
First off, part of me wants to be irate because I HATE the media and how I believe it is responsible for putting the ideas in teen and preteen (and well adults too) girls' heads that they need to look a certain way. I HATE that. As someone who has dealt personally with anorexia, I can honestly say that the media has a great impact on the mental health of girls. I hate seeing the best/worst in swimsuits every summer in the checkout lane at the store. I hate how they take stars that are "normal" sized and make them out to be fat cows.
On the other hand.....
I don't think that overweight (not that she is) should ever be standard or that woman should be applauded for being proud to be fat. As a country we need to take this seriously as we have the biggest (no pun intended) problem with obesity in children and adults. I don't think that people anywhere should be proud that they are carrying an unhealthy amount of weight on them. I wouldn't be proud to have lung cancer and keep on smoking. I have recently gained some weight and I want nothing more than to get back into shape so I can be healthy for my family.
I believe it is equally unhealthy for the media to do what they are doing and for others to make people too comfortable and proud to remain unhealthy and overweight. If everyone would eat healthy and in moderation, and exercise, sure we would still all be different sizes and shapes, but we would all be healthy and could rightfully be happy and content with ourselves, ideally of course.
