I got the pedigree information from the breeder, so I didn't have to pay extra for AKC to do a search.  I think the pedigree, is interesting, but unless you are a breeder, it's not that valuable.  I think the AKC has different prices depending how many generations you ask for, I think Joey's goes back 4 generations, so it would be like the great great grandma.  

  I don't know if they give any location or health information, I would think you would have to search that yourself, and what I received is just a family tree.  When we signed up, we opted for the regular registration, and the lifetime, lost and found.  We have a microchip, in Joey, and thought the having the number doubly listed with the microchip company and AKC would offer us more protection, but mainly I believe in supporting the AKC and their efforts to get rid of bad breeders,  so that's part of the reason I choose that.
