When we first brought Smokey home, he was petrified! I have always with all of my dogs held their head and kissed them on the head. I tried to do that with Smokey and he jumped off the bed, tail tucked, and dove under the bed shaking like crazy. It took me about 30 to 45 minutes to coax him back out and when he did come out, he wanted NOTHING to do with me. I finally caught him and cuddled him until he stopped shaking. I started working with him and little by little his episodes lessened. Now when I do that, he'll either jump up and kiss me back or he puts his butt in the air, wiggles his tail, and barks at me.
