I had Lucy spayed at six and a half months old (around 5lbs). I took her in in the morning, they ran full bloods, carried out the op and then kept her in overnight (which they like to do with small or very elderly dogs). When I picked her up the following morning, she was slightly drowsy for the rest of that day - although still pottered around quite happily with no pain meds. I put her in a onesie, but she managed to wriggle out of it. However, since she never licked or chewed her stitches, I just left it off.
