Our vet told me to administer the entire dose of heartworm medication because the dosage isn't evenly distributed through the pill- meaning if you broke it in half, more of the medication might be in one half than the other.
I don't give flea/tick medication anymore but when I did I divided the "up to 22 lbs" dose between 3 dogs. I'm not sure if you can save the leftovers though. Maybe someone else can answer that for you.
