Where is the pup's crate? Is it in a bedroom where he can see/hear/smell people so he knows he's not alone? How old is the pup? Is he actually old enough to leave mom and his siblings? If he's too young, that could be the problem. The recommended age is 12 weeks; sometimes that isn't enough because pups mature at different rates. 12 weeks is much better than 8 weeks though!
And, if they get along, why *can't* Samson sleep with him? I'm all for making the new member happy. If he's not, if he creates "hard feelings" with family members from the very beginning, bonding becomes very difficult.
