It could very well be kennel cough. Is it a hacking, kinda honking sound? Kennel cough is like when people get a cold. There is nothing that can be given to fix it but he SHOULD be on antibiotics to prevent it from becoming pneumonia (Which i can do without these meds... and which might kill him). In the mean time- and while he is on the antibiotics- try a warm air humidifier, near his bed at night. Also when he is on the antibiotics he should be on some pro biotics- either in pill form or in yogurt- as the antibiotics can be horrible on their little systems.
