By spaying her before she ever has a heat cycle, you will eliminate her chances of ever getting mammary cancer. If you wait until after she has gone into heat once, her risk climbs to 8%. After the second heat cycle, her risk of getting cancer is the same as an unspayed dog, about 25%.
