My test with any name is how would I feel screaming it out at the top of my lungs at the park when the little sod won't come back
And I agree with some of the other posters that your dog may well wind up with a nick name that bears little relation to their actual name -- Dixie is currently Leelu. (don't ask me how - but she responds to it - poor little girly must have an identity crisis with all the nick names she's had)
It's also amazing how dougal's ears will prick up when you say "google" - As in I'll just google that.
But go with your gut - what works for you.
