Artie is 10 1/2 lbs. and 5 yrs. old, he LOVES people and other Dogs but he will avoid Children, he is completely Trained & Socialized and he will sit and take it if I command him but he prefers NOT to! I do NOT Force him but I do try to coax him. Abigayle is 7 lbs. and 4 yrs. old but her Breeder is a "Grand
Mother" and had her Grandchildren around her ever since she was born, so she Loves & Adores them all the time. Pom Pom is their Daughter and I have had her since she was born, she is only 5 lbs. and going on 3 yrs. old she has been around Children of all ages but she hates them! Since she is the smallest one, everyone always wants to carry her. They also get excited and scream & fight over her. Remember I can control my Dogs but I can't control how the Children treat them? They do not Trust them and I'm sure they can feel their Energy? She has had too many un-pleasant experiences with them.
So I don't force them to tolerate anyone. That's just how Yorkies are, it's a well known fact that they just don't like them, what can you do? |
Yeah there's only one child that Bailey will "tolerate" letting him touch him, my niece. She has been around him since I first brought him home and I think that's why. He's always excited to see my boyfriend's son and other kids, but the minute they try to "touch" him, his ears go back, his lip goes up and he shys away from them and even growls a bit. I'm terrifie of this behavior because I don't want him biting some kid and then them wanting me to put Bailey under. I'd have to flee the country or something...LOL. I usually just scoop him up... and tell the kid(s) that he's not in the mood to be petted right now. It's just frustrating because he's got so much love to give and I know how healing a dog can be. I don't want to force the situation but am just not too sure what to do either... Thanks for your suggestions, looks like i'm not alone on this one...
