My neighbor spent $18000 on her dog when he had cancer. I don't want to ever refuse to have something done for my dog because I can't afford it. I spent a lot of time in that hospital and my bill wasn't all that unusual. With emergencies, specialists, lab work, tests and medicines the bill can go through the roof. I know with my insurance you can pick different things to keep the costs down also. I hope you never need to use it.
That is exactly my fear. Thanks for everyone's advice. I think I will look deeper into the plans. After hearing about what you went through, I feel like I'm scared to take any risks. From the previous posts suggestions, I will check out those plans, and try to figure out a good plan. I would just die if I had to deny Lola treatment because of money. I've decided that I don't think it is worth the risk.

Also, I know that its almost like a last resort to go to the pet emergency for a lot of people because of the high costs. I don't want to be worried about that. If I think she needs medical attention, I want to be able to take her in and not worry about the fees. Thanks everyone for your great advice!!
