My opinion is that it's OK to let them cry as long as they aren't frantic.

I've had many puppies in my life and they all learned to settle on their own if I left them alone. Believe me, my heart nearly broke with a couple of my furbabies.

You didn't say how old your little guy is but if he has something to comfort him - a toy or his blanket - that may help. Some take a couple of nights to settle and some take longer but it will happen. If not soon, then you may want to involve your vet in the process. There are some natural products that help calm them down. Lavender is one I've used. Good luck.
