metamucil is a human fiber product you can find in the supermarket.
at 12 weeks old your puppy can be eatting dry food with no problems. i don't know why your vet said not to feed it. it will be easier for the new owners to feed dry and not have to fight with the transition from wet to dry.
wellness, orijen, solid gold, and innova all have wet and dry puppy foods that are great.
