I have the Peti-paws, but after taking Joey to his breeder for a grooming, she said that I was allowing the nails to get too long. Watching her use the clipper, made me realize how much faster it was. She was able to get him to lie on her lap, while she just clipped away. The important thing when clipping or filing is to hold the nail base firmly, the wiggling action is what hurts them. The clippers with a safety guard are the safest, but it's really nerve racking and I'm still learning to do it. It's so much faster than filing, and if you can learn to use them, you'll save yourself lots of time. I had to wrap Joey in a towel, and stick one paw out to do it, but I've been able to cut his front paws twice now, he seems to keep his back paws trimmed short enough because he walks a lot on concrete and this files the back nails. Just cut the tip, and if you do it monthly, you'll probaly never need to do more than this. |
