That is a good question!? Growing up, I had a black lab named Simon, and he had real dry, flakey skin, and the vet (back then) told my parents to put olive oil over his dry food, and within weeks, his skin was so bright and shiny, and not as flakey! So, I guess it wouldn't be harmful, but I would maybe call your vet just to be safe!
