YorkieRose you say
"I would not even ask for papers myself..they mean nothing unless you breed/show to me" then you say "I own and breed from AKC only"
You have my head spinning first you say papers don't matter, yet you're a breeder and would only buy and reg AKC. I am very confused
If they are not reputable:
Puppy mills believe in quality not quantity, their bitches are over bred and not socialized, have no breeding program, push em out, wean at 3 weeks, selling them as soon as they are walking, papering with full breeding rights on their registration, mostly producing inferior quality, unheathy, oversized dogs ...then you have the buyers that think its ok to breed completing an ongoing vicious circle.
If they are reputable:
commercial breeders (ones that have more than 3 litters a year) take pride in their breed, have convictions on their breeding programs and attempt to achieve the best of the best. They wean at 6-8 weeks old, sold at 10-12 weeks on limited registration unless they feel they are appropriate standard then you may pay a premium for that right. Their bitches are treated and feed like queens, retired at 3-4 litters and either sell them as adult pets or keep them as part as their family.
Unreputable breeders come in all colors and in all registries but most would avoid AKC because of requirements and standards that MUST BE Followed!
Finally for those who falsify a reqistration because of money should be turned in to the AKC.
