I'm glad to know I am welcome here because I need help!! lol The only dog I have ever owned I had for 16 years and got her at 8 weeks old. She was a shelter rescue - some sort of German Shepard mix (never did find out with WHAT) and was 60 pounds. I lost her to kidney failure over Thanksgiving
It was heartbreaking. The house was way too quiet so I just had to get another dog and didn't want to "replace" my baby so I went with a small boy instead of a big girl
But now I am not sure what to do because he is sooooo timid!!! He follows me everywhere and stays on my heels but if I go to pick him up or give him a treat he runs from me!! He will only let me hold him if I am already on the couch and then HOURS LATER he will ask to join me and I help him up. How can I train a dog who is afraid of me and WHY is he afraid? Is it a small dog thing or do you think maybe he was abused in the past? Please help!!
