I would have a ritual bonfire. (I know, extreme, but hey) I would burn them and then burn the ashes. If someone asked me why, I would tell them the story. If they STILL wanted the palms, I would just explain that this ritual is a closure thing for me, and they could just go buy their own somewhere. IMHO [My neighbors think I'm crazy anyway.
