I'm not a breeder but I have heard that it's better to dock their tails because they can get hurt. I have a friend who bought a Yorkie that did NOT have her tail docked and when her dog fell off the couch, she fractured her poor little tail in 2 places. She had to have the vet remove the tail after that. So besides physical looks and breed standard, I think they dock tails for safety reasons. But I'm sure a breeder will answer your question better then I did.
