I don't know the proper answer to your question, cuz this is my 1st yorkie, but I just took my little girl in to be groomed. She is 5mos. They just gave her a bath, did her nails, and tried to get her familiar with grooming. They did trim her bangs, but that's about it. I think if you go to a reputable groomer, they should know if your doggie needs cut or not. I think they recommend bringing them in for grooming as soon as they have has all of their shots, so they can get used to it.
