My boys are 18 months old, around other dogs and cats and I have never seen a flea on any of them (my cat either). I use the Revolution which protects against fleas, ticks, mange, mites and heartworm. It is relatively inexpensive, $10 per month per dog. I would never use a Hartz product as I have heard nothing but horror stories about them. I also have been told that if you have fleas in your yard, to mix Dawn dishwashing soap with water and put in a lawn sprayer and spray your yard, harmless to pets and it will kill the fleas.
