I am sorry if anyones feelings were hurt by what I have posted but, the facts are still there and nothing changes that. I never once said that anyones dog was not a wonderful pet. What I was saying and still do is that there is alot more to breeding that what seems to be coming across by people not only on this thread but several others that I have seen on these boards about people wanting to breed their dogs.
If I sound harse and uncaring by what I say then maybe I am but, I just can't see breeding any animal I don't care if its dogs, horses, pigs or anything else unless you have done your home work and made sure that what you are breeding is going to in some way better the breed you have choosen.
I am sure that I am not the only breeder out here who feels the way I do when someone says " I just want to try breeding" or " My baby is so cute I just have to have babies from her". Or the two that really tops things off for me are " I want my kids to see the miracle of birth " and the ever popular
"everyone says that they want one just like mine"
Well I'm sorry there is no guarantee that they will get one just like yours, it just doesn't work that way. Also to those people who want one just like that one I would ask do they really know anything about the breed or did they just see a cute puppy and think it would be like that forever?
So as I said in my other posts these are just my opinions as a breeder myself. I didn't just jump into breeding thinking my dogs were cute or that I was going to make a few extra dollars. I studied the breed for three long and hard years before ever getting my first one. When I thought I wanted to get into breeding and showing I studied some more and I spent a great deal of time working with my veterinary learning all I could about whelping and all of the things that could possibly go wrong. Then after much thought and a lot of searching for the bloodlines that I wanted I stepped up to the plate.
Even today I still learn something new every day, WHY? Because I still ask questions and listen to what others have to say. I compare notes with other breeders and I put a great deal of thought into each breeding that I do.
With all of this being said I will repeat myself and say that all of this is just MY OPINION!!! NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS...
It just bothers me when people go into breeding not caring if they are helpping the breed to better itself or not. |
