My daughter was just a little over 2yrs old when we brought Stormy home, before Stormy we had a shihtzu puppy and with him we taught her that you do not pick up the puppy without mommy and daddy and you touch the puppy gently. My daughter is amazing with Stormy.I think what helped us is that we had a parrot before so she knew that she had to be very gentle with handling him
