Like I said in the above post I believe in the work the AKC is doing, the $20.00 it costs to register is a one time life fee, and this money helps support kennel inspections. It also help keep breeders honest because many have said that dogs were eligible to be registered when indeed they were not. Furthermore, it tells the AKC exactly, how many dogs a year the breeder is actually having. DNA tests and home inspections are required over a certain number and some breeders don't encourage you to register due to this. When you register a dog, your dog will forever be categorized in a specific line. I am hopeful that these records will, in the future, be an aid to scientists who wish to learn more about certain genetic conditions. This sort of thing has already happened with humans when there were good records taken.
