That is very interesting. I have a rescued Maltese who likes to lick...he particularly likes to lick the faces and ears of the other dogs, but will also lick the sofa, sheets, and my husband. He doesn't lick me because I won't let him. We've taught him the command "no licking!" so when he starts on the furniture we can stop him from a distance. He particularly likes to lick my husband's arm and hands.

If it makes him feel good, I think I'll just redirect him to one of his canine companions.
