I was just talking on BB Messenger a little while ago  When you click on the BB Messenger icon, you have to click on the Menu Button (the button with the 7 little dots that is by the Green ANSWER button on your phone) - then when the menu comes up, you will want to click on "ADD A CONTACT" - then you can add someone to your BB Messenger right from your address book on your phone
HOWEVER, since you said you don't know anyone with a Blackberry, you will have to scroll WAY up to the top (when your in your address book) and click on "USE ONCE" - then you can add someone to your Blackberry Messenger by using their e-mail address
