Beth you can order products to help with the pulling of ear hair it is usually a powder so you can get a better grip... This hair must come out other wise you are looking a yeast infection in the ears as moisture can't get out.... Bad smell in the ears can also indicate ear mites. If you don't feel comfortable doing this let the groomer or vet do it for you. The sooner the better if there is a ordor coming from his ears. Hope this helps....
