What a night! Our sweet Reggie is like a little vacuum and will eat anything he can find. This has led to many times of us chasing him down to keep him from swallowing foreign objects. Now he runs from us most all the time and you can only pick him up when he approaches you himself.
Well last night he got ahold of one of Marissa's socks that had 3 little decorative pom poms on it about as big around as a dime. When I saw him he had chewed them off and when I tried to get to him he took to running. I was pretty sure he had one in his mouth but by the time I got him it was gone. I wasn't sure if he swallowed it or dropped it some place but I never found it. At 4 am Marissa comes to get us up and says that Reggie is wretching and trying to vomit. (He sleeps in her room in a doggy bed surrounded by some wire puppy pen panels so he can't roam at night.) I figured it must be the pom pom and didn't know what to do. I got up with him and took him to our couch where he and I lay together. Off and on he would wretch but nothing but a little foam would come up. I tell you all I was praying hard for God to help him vomit that thing up because our vet was not open until 8 am the next morning. At 6:20 am he and I had finally been asleep for about 20 mins and he got up and moved to the other sofa and began to wretch again. This time I saw what looked like something come up in the dark (I had a night light on near by). Thank the LORD! It was that pom pom. After that he seemed to settle down and be fine. At 8am I called the vet and they said if he had thrown up the pom pom he would probably be fine now but to just watch him to see if he holds down his food and poops normal. He had his usual BM fine and he at about 1/3 of his morning food ration. At this point I called in to work to say I would be late and he and I went back to bed. I let Marissa stay home from school because she had lost sleep over it too and then I had Stacia, my oldest in bed sick with a head cold. I got up at 10:45 and he seemed to be fine. He went and ate some more of his food and was still eating when I left for work. Marissa and Stacia are there now keeping an eye on him and Marissa says he seems fine.
I sure do hope this little guy outgrows his fascination for swallowing things really soon! |
