I am sorry to hear about the puppy. I think she is looking for a safe and private area to be alone with her baby, maybe she is worried something will happen to it as well. I keep mine in my office in her cage with a sheet draped over it. And my other dogs, well, they aren't in the same room with mommy and babies. So, yes I feel her behavior is perfectly normal. Good Luck with the new puppy.
