It is soft sided and has mesh in it - both a really bad idea for a puppy that can get a claw caught in the mesh and can chew the material - with what could be disasterous results - To crate train and for a bed you are much better off with a wire crate ( small size ) if it seems too open - drape a towel or blanket over it but you will keep your baby safe and have better results

The carrier you are looking at is just that - a carrier for when you want to take it places etc - not a bed or training item.
