When my female Tinka was a pup, she was quite sickly and we struggled to get her to eat anything. The vet put her on a human meal replacement supplement. Everytime we fed her we also gave her a small amount of "shake" which she loved. We knew that she was getting all the nutrients and goodness she needed and even picked up a little weight whilst she was on it. In South Africa we don't have a huge range of pet products, hence the reason we had to use Ensure (for humans) but maybe you could get something in the States specifically for pets.
