I used to have a Jack Russell terrier and he broke his leg when he was only 4 months old. The people at the emergency vet told us it would have to have surgery to repair (they put a soft cast on it). When we took him to our vet, he said he didn't think surgery was needed and he said we could wait and see how the break healed. Sure enough it healed correctly and no surgery was needed. Of course, your situation may be totally different, but if you are not completely comfortable with the recommended course of action, you should seek another opinion. I know it is hard though, because it is the weekend. We were in the same situation too as it was over the Memorial Day weekend. Anyway, good luck with your decision.
